I know it's a PITA, but some times that seems to be the only way to fix these issues. Let me know how things go. Make sure your PC can run the latest build. You seem to be very PC savvy.
I reinstalled Windows a few days ago while backing up some of my filesand it seemed like it would work, but the Windows Creators Update was on the list of updates ready to install. I tried installing it two days ago and today, both did the same time-consuming process of failing to update. Before I tried installing it today, I did most of the steps on that update prep link, including step 12 where I'm supposed to execute several commands to make sure nothing will go wrong.
Right now I'm going to try and unplug most of the things from my computer and disable startup programs. I don't want to winsows and manually uninstall device drivers because I don't really know which ones I'm not supposed to uninstall. After doing all that, I will try to update my computer one last time.

Let it curwor all night. I have seen where users report that windws update completed after 8 hours. I don't know way it takes that long. You may have to think about a clean install. Well, I started the update at about last night, and it froze at the black screen atwhich is where I left it for the night.

When I reinstalled Windows the other day, I chose the option to keep my personal files.
